Evolver is the third studio album by R&B/soul singer John Legend, released by GOOD Music and Columbia Records on October 28, 2008 in the United States and on October 20 in the United Kingdom. It features guest appearances by Kanye West, Brandy, Estelle and Andre 3000, among others.

The album debuted at number 4 on the U.S. Billboard 200 to sales of 132,823 copies. It also entered the UK Albums Chart at number 21, and reached number 26 on the national Japanese albums chart, as well as number 5 on the Japanese foreign chart.[3] It has debuted The album has received mixed reviews from music critics since its release.

“I think it’s hard to find a general theme [for the album]. It’s a lot of love and relationship songs, as people probably would expect from me. There’s not an overarching lyrical theme that goes throughout. It’s just a bunch of good songs, I think.”

Sleep Through the Static is the fifth studio album by singer-songwriter Jack Johnson, released in the U.S. on February 5, 2008. The effort was announced on Johnson’s personal website as renovation began for the release of the album. It was recorded at L.A.’s Solar Powered Plastic Plant, which makes it Johnson’s first album not made in Hawaii.

This more political album was played live for the first time at the BBC in December for a select number of fans. It has been reviewed by music critics around the world to mostly unenthusiastic reception. The album received mixed reviews from critics.

The first single, “If I Had Eyes”, was released via Johnson’s MySpace page on December 17, 2007. The second single from the album was Hope and was released on May and peaked at number #30 on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks.

The album debuted at number one on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart, selling about 375,000 copies in its first week, including 139,000 digital downloads. This was a record high for weekly digital album sales.[1] It also debuted at number one on the Worldwide chart with sales of 577,000. It held the record at iTunes for most digital downloads in a single day, until Coldplay’s Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends set a new record.

Sleep Through the Static remained at number one on the Billboard 200 in its second week of release, by which time it had sold over 180,000 copies, as well as its third week, in which it sold 105,000 copies.] It fell from the number one spot in its fourth week, in which it placed third with about 92,000 copies sold.

Black Ice is the 15th studio album by Australian hard rock band AC/DC, produced by Brendan O’Brien and released worldwide between October 17 and 22, 2008. AC/DC were known to be working on the album as early as January 2006, with it being delayed because of an injury to bassist Cliff Williams and a change of record labels to Sony Music, and in turn Columbia Records.

The album is their longest to date, with the band having recorded it in The Warehouse Studio in Vancouver, Canada, the same studio as their previous album Stiff Upper Lip. It is their first album since the release of Stiff Upper Lip in 2000, the longest gap between two AC/DC studio albums to date.

Black Ice sold around 1,762,000 units in its first week, shipping 5,000,000 copies worldwide. The album went number one in 29 different countries, including Australia, the United Kingdom and United States. In its first week, it sold 784,000 copies in the US alone, with it receiving a three times platinum certification in Australia and selling upwards of 110,000 in the UK. The band’s 15th effort has been heralded as “the biggest debut ever by a mainstream hard rock album.”

4:13 Dream is the thirteenth studio album by English rock band The Cure. After failing to meet several release dates, the album was released on 28 October 2008 by Geffen Records.

The thirteenth studio album by The Cure was originally intended to be a double album, however frontman Robert Smith confirmed in recent interviews that this idea was scrapped, despite the fact that 33 songs have been recorded. Some songs featured on the album were recycled from earlier album sessions. An example is “Sleep When I’m Dead” which was originally written for the band’s 1985 album The Head on the Door, and “A Boy I Never Knew”, a re-recording of an unreleased song from 2004’s The Cure. Smith attested that the album would mostly comprise the upbeat songs the band recorded, while the darker songs may be released on another album.

A Hundred Million Suns is the fifth album by alternative rock band Snow Patrol. The album was released in Ireland on October 24, 2008, in the UK and the rest of Europe on October 27, 2008[2] [3], and in the US on October 28, 2008. The first single from the album was “Take Back the City” which was released on October 10 in Ireland, Germany and Belgium. The song has peaked at #32 on the US Hot Modern Rock Tracks. “Crack the Shutters” has made it to #9 on the iTunes Store Alternative Songs chart. The album debuted at #2 in the UK with sales of 100,330.

he album was recorded in Hansa Studio in Berlin and Grouse Lodge Studio in Co. Westmeath, Ireland through Summer 2008, with producer Garret “Jacknife” Lee.[4][5]

The album is considerable departure from Snow Patrol’s earlier productions. Frontman Gary Lightbody said he wanted to make a record cheerful as compared to their previous albums. Instead of describing a relationship’s end, the record was written in perspective of a relationship that is working. The band members took additional lessons before starting the recording. They have described the album as their best to date.

The Night Watchman - The Fabled City (2008)

The Fabled City is the 2nd studio album by The Nightwatchman, the alter ego of Tom Morello. It was released on September 30, 2008.[2]
Morello stated that he now goes by the name Tom Morello: The Nightwatchman, and that is the name which the new album will be released under.
It also has been confirmed that Serj Tankian of System of a Down and Shooter Jennings will be featured guests on the album, and that it will be produced by Brendan O’Brien (Pearl Jam, Rage Against the Machine, Audioslave).

On August 8, the track ‘Whatever It Takes’ was released on The Nightwatchman’s myspace.

Something Else is the third studio album by American R&B singer Robin Thicke. The release date is set for September 30, 2008. It is a follow up to Robin Thicke’s highly successful second album The Evolution of Robin Thicke and will feature one guest appearances in Lil Wayne. The first single “Magic” leaked onto the internet May 14, 2008. The second single “The Sweetest Love” is now avaliable for download via iTunes, as well as a pre-order of the album.

After Robin Thicke finished up his tour for the The Evolution of Robin Thicke album he immediately got into the studio to start recording the album. The album features production from Thicke himself along side The Neptunes, and Pro Jay. Thicke conducted a listening party in Los Angeles on April 14, 2008 where he described the album as “wine and bubbly” type music.

Appeal to Reason is the fifth studio album by American punk rock band Rise Against, due for release on October 7, 2008. It will be the follow-up to 2006’s highly successful The Sufferer & the Witness. The album will also be the band’s third release on a major label, and also their first release with current guitarist Zach Blair.

Rise Against is an American punk rock band from Chicago, Illinois that was formed in 1999. Their current line-up consists of four members: Tim McIlrath (vocals, guitar), Joe Principe (bass guitar), Brandon Barnes (drums), and Zach Blair (guitar). To date, Rise Against has released four albums, a rare material EP, and one DVD.

Rise Against rose to fame with their first two major label releases, Siren Song of the Counter Culture (2004) and The Sufferer & the Witness (2006), with hits such as “Give It All”, “Swing Life Away”, “Ready to Fall”, “Prayer of the Refugee”, and “The Good Left Undone”. Beyond The Horizon is the sophomore album of the Welsh indie rock band People in Planes.

People In Planes were in pre-production for their second album for Wind-Up records since they returned from the States in late 2006. They took a period off to rehearse new material and played a string of UK shows in late 2006 and early 2007 where they road-tested new material. New song titles include: “Baked”, “Evil With You”, “Get On The Flaw”, “Human Error”, “Better Than Life”, “I Wish That You’d Fall Apart” and “Tonight (The Sun Will Rise)” On February 7th 2008 People In Planes released Pretty Buildings, the first song from Beyond The Horizon as an internet download through myspace and the band’s mailing list.

Hey people. I hereby declare People In Planes are back! Our new project was recorded with four different producers in six studios across Wales, England and America, and we’ve put our entire souls into it. It’s been a long wait for all of us, and we’re really excited to present this first track to you- “Pretty Buildings”. –Gareth, Peter, Kris, John and Ian

The band headed out to SXSW in March to showcase songs from the new album before joining Jupiter One on a co-headlining tour across the States between March and April. Guitarist Peter Roberts blogged from the road on the band’s myspace revealing that the first radio single is set to be M’aidez, M’aidez, due sometime before the end of the first run of shows. On March 26th 2008, the first video from Beyond The Horizon, for the song Pretty Buildings, was released online as a purevolume exclusive. In addition, on this date the splash page of the band’s website changed revealing Beyond The Horizon as the title of the album with a tentative release date of Summer 2008.

The first single from Beyond The Horizon, “Mayday (M’aidez)” will be available only on Amazon on May 20th, along with “Last Man Standing” and the “Pretty Buildings” video.
