The Rasmus is a Finnish rock band that formed in 1994 in Helsinki while the band members were still in high school.[3] The original band members were Lauri Ylönen (lead singer/songwriter), Eero Heinonen (bass), Pauli Rantasalmi (guitar) and Janne Heiskanen (drums). Heiskanen quit the band in 1998 and was soon replaced by Aki Hakala.

Before releasing their fourth studio album Into (2001), they were simply known as Rasmus, but changed their name to The Rasmus in order to avoid being confused with a Swedish DJ of the same name. They gained international fame with their 2003 album Dead Letters, accompanied with the single “In the Shadows” which reached number 1 in several countries.

The band is one of Finland’s most successful bands with more than 3.5 million sold albums worldwide[citation needed], eight gold awards and five platinum awards. They have released six studio albums, one compilation album and 21 singles. Some of the band’s most famous songs are the singles “Liquid”, “F-F-F-Falling”, “In the Shadows”, “First Day of My Life”, “Funeral Song” , “No Fear” and “Sail Away”. Swan Songs is the first album by the band Hollywood Undead. The album was released on September 2, 2008.[1] The album was released with a bonus track and an option to unlock a music video when purchased on Amazon.com[1] and at some select online retailers. “Undead”, the first track on the album appears on the soundtrack of the video game Madden NFL 09.[2] “Everywhere I Go”, the third track from the album was the first single to be released. It was a web single and was available for download only on iTunes.[2] The band released two official videos for two songs on the album, “No.5″ and “Undead” and both videos were directed by the director Jonas Åkerlund.

The album name “Swan Songs” represents the last song a swan sings before it dies. The band chose that name because it reflected on the lifetime of the band and the fact that if the band broke up after releasing this album, then this album would be a fitting “Swan Song” for them. This album was supposed to be released on their first label, Myspace Records in 2007 but it got postponed by the record label when the label wanted them to remove some songs and censor some others but they declined. The band switched labels to a label who woudn’t require them to censor their songs. The album peaked at #22 on the Billboard 200 and sold 21,000 copies in its debut week.

  1. “Undead” - 4:25

In early 2008, frontman Caleb Followill confirmed to UK magazine NME that the band is working on tracks for the fourth album. In an interview Jared (the band’s bassist) said the next album will “rock harder”, and that they are “ready to tackle their southern roots…again.” Recording began in February 2008, when the band completed its 2007 tour. The album was produced by Angelo Petraglia and Jacquire King.[citation needed]

In the June 2008 issue of Rolling Stone Magazine, Caleb discussed how he believes his pain medication (which he took after a fistfight with brother Nathan) inspired him to write some of the “most beautiful” songs, so much that he’s claimed he is “proud track-by-track.” Caleb also cited little known Royston Vasie as the next up and comers and most likely to support them on their Australasian tours. The band have already debuted three new songs entitled “Crawl”, “Sex on Fire” and “Manhattan”, which can all be found on Youtube. Other titles to emerge include “Closer”, “Use Somebody”, “Revelry”, “17″, “Notion”, “I Want You”, “Be Somebody” and “Cold Desert”.

They have announced that they will be touring Ireland and Great Britain with their new album material in December 2008. This is following headline sets at T In The Park in Perth and Kinross, Scotland and Oxegen Festival in Co. Kildare Ireland in July, V Festival in mid-August and the set they performed headlining the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury 2008. In September 2008, they performed on the BBC2 TV show Later with Jools Holland.

The song “Crawl” from this album was released as a free download on the bands website on July 28th. On August 5, 2008 the first single “Sex on Fire” was being released on their MySpace page and subsequently released to radio.[citation needed] Sex on Fire was then released as a single to download in the UK on the 8th September achieving their first top ten hit and first British number 1.

On Saturday, September 20, Kings of Leon performed on Saturday Night Live. They performed two songs from their latest album, “Sex on Fire” and “Use Somebody.” Three nights later they again performed on The Late Show with David Letterman.

Year of the Gentleman was named in honor of Ne-Yo’s artistic influences. Ne-Yo cited the 1960s American group Rat Pack, particularly members Sammy Davis, Jr. and Frank Sinatra as influences, whose style inspired his clothes and music. Explaining the album’s title, he said he was “trying to take it back to where you couldn’t walk out of the house unless you looked your best”.[7] Commenting on the likes of the Rat Pack and Nat King Cole he commented that “they’re suited and everything is right from top to bottom. Not saying it has to be a suit, ’cause clothes don’t make the man — it’s the attitude and person. The music needs to personify that.”. No featurings are present on the album, as previously announced, though “Single” also features as a version with New Kids on the Block on their album, The Block.

Although Ne-Yo has claimed that he wanted to “take a different direction” on the album by not making R&B sounds, however, according to Billboard magazine, “it seems he still has a heavy—yet welcome—case of the (rhythm and) blues on the finished product”.

Reviews for the album have been generally positive. Rolling Stone said “The 28-year-old singer-songwriter says his latest collection of heartfelt love songs is a tribute to the Rat Pack’s pressed-suit style, but it’s actually a superb concept album about what a great boyfriend he can be.

Year of the Gentleman debuted at #2 on the Billboard 200 with 250,000 copies sold. The album debuted at #2 on the UK Albums Chart, giving Ne-Yo his highest charting album in the UK beating “Because of You” which debuted at #6 in 2007. In Japan the album met great success charting at #1, with 62,000 copies sold in it’s first week.
