Sleep Through the Static is the fifth studio album by singer-songwriter Jack Johnson, released in the U.S. on February 5, 2008. The effort was announced on Johnson’s personal website as renovation began for the release of the album. It was recorded at L.A.’s Solar Powered Plastic Plant, which makes it Johnson’s first album not made in Hawaii.

This more political album was played live for the first time at the BBC in December for a select number of fans. It has been reviewed by music critics around the world to mostly unenthusiastic reception. The album received mixed reviews from critics.

The first single, “If I Had Eyes”, was released via Johnson’s MySpace page on December 17, 2007. The second single from the album was Hope and was released on May and peaked at number #30 on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks.

It held the record at iTunes for most digital downloads in a single day, until Coldplay’s Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends set a new record.

4:13 Dream is the thirteenth studio album by English rock band The Cure. After failing to meet several release dates, the album was released on 28 October 2008 by Geffen Records.

The thirteenth studio album by The Cure was originally intended to be a double album, however frontman Robert Smith confirmed in recent interviews that this idea was scrapped, despite the fact that 33 songs have been recorded. Some songs featured on the album were recycled from earlier album sessions. An example is “Sleep When I’m Dead” which was originally written for the band’s 1985 album The Head on the Door, and “A Boy I Never Knew”, a re-recording of an unreleased song from 2004’s The Cure. Smith attested that the album would mostly comprise the upbeat songs the band recorded, while the darker songs may be released on another album.

Snowflake Midnight

Snowflake Midnight

Snowflake Midnight is the seventh studio album from Mercury Rev. It was released on September 29, 2008 in the UK, and September 30 in the US[1], but was leaked to many file-sharing Torrent websites as early as July 17. The album’s release coincides with tour dates in the UK and Europe, which can be found listed on the band’s MySpace page link.

From the band’s website:

On September 29, 2008, MERCURY REV will release their seventh studio album, SNOWFLAKE MIDNIGHT, a set of nine self-luminous and astonishing new songs. Zooming in at any part of SNOWFLAKE MIDNIGHT, at nearly any conceivable magnification, always reveals the forces of symmetry and chaos at play, shimmering, vibrating close-ups and vistas of life driving itself onward, bursting with patterns and mandala-like forms pushed to the brink of incredible pressures then lost in an instant… blown apart by their own majestic desire to share themselves, spirals of new momentum inter-twingling with the vastness of limitless new creation… The entire album sequence appears to be a resplendent fractal, folding in upon itself, into something continually new, unpredictable and spontaneous, and yet, paradoxically at times so subtly self-aware, never failing to resemble itself in the whole…

The album was Album of the Week at ClashMusic.com on its week of release.

Made available on the same day from the band’s website is the “companion” album Strange Attractor. This eleven-track instrumental album was given away free as an MP3 download.

Track List:

  1. “Snowflake in a Hot World” - 3:58
  2. “Butterfly’s Wings” - 4:06
  3. “Senses on Fire” - 3:30
